Hey clarinetists.

Okay, I found some videos of The Rakes of Mallow and The Wearing of Green on some webbies.
I leave it to Mr Tang to decide which is the better one so that y'all can have an example of the tempo, how it should be played and what are some stuff other bands have (emphasis, dynamics, etc) that we don't.
Please jot it down and share it during sectionals on the next practice.
DON'T RUSH AT THE QUAVERS!!

&, here are some webbies for better playing. Includes airy sound, breathing and many more.
Please try the breathing exercises and see if you are on the correct track.
Remember good posture and it'll be good to do this in front of the mirror.

On top of that, we can use this chance to have mini section outing.

" your tummy, stomach, diaphragm, as you lay down, move up and down. That tummy is working the air in your lungs. That is where all of your breathing energy should occur (besides the mouth, of course). Breathe in now, and try to fill the sides of your diaphragm (about where your elbows touch your upper torso). If you fill that area, you are really filling your lungs up well and this knowledge alone will help your Clarinet Air Support. "

Hey clarinetists. :D
I attended the SL training just now.
okay I have alot to brief you guys.

As y'knw, we went thru' a theory lesson by Mr Tang last week.
So in order to test whether did y'all pay attention to Mr Tang, I shall come up w a mini test to test you guys.
I will grade y'all, and those who fail the test will have a mini class session w me :D
I will test y'all whatever that is taught in the worksheet.
As for WanLing, I'll teach you asap then you can sit for the test as well.

I'll be more kind to the sec 1s and I won't be so picky.
For the seniors, HAHAHA, too bad. I'll be picky :D
You guys will sit for this test during the band camp, any one of the sectionals :)
So meanwhile, clear whatever doubts you have.

Please read up more about your own instrument.
Eg. The model, the brand, history of clarinet esp in this June Hols.
It's for your own knowledge but I'll test you guys if I have the time.

from this week onwards, we'll have plenty of section meetings.
You can use this opportunity to voice out your opinions on how I conduct the sectionals.
Please be open cos your opinion really counts and this will definitely help to make the section a better one, and as a whole, we can build up the standard of PHSB as well :D

As SIBF will be coming up in less than 2 months' time.
I need EACH ONE OF YOU to go youtube or whichever webbie to look for a professional clarinet player, observe how he/she plays and have your own ideal sound of the clarinet. Please work towards that ideal sound and I'm pretty sure between this month or so, our section sound will definitely improve.
I will do my part to have more long tones to improve your individual sound as well :)

oh yes. I've observed you guys for quite a while and realised that there isn't much sense of urgency in y'all.
Time is limited and we gotta give in all our best for the upcoming SIBF. please be faster YET ACCURATE AND CAREFUL in whatever you do k ;)

for sec 2s, please work on your high notes!
please please please! :(

I will organise some section outings and meals in order to bond us more together.
thru' this, I hope y'all can be more open and not afraid to voice out anything.
this will also boost your passion for band and music, and we can communicate w each other better.

Really thank you for coaching us for the past 2 years.

Your guidance and patience is very much appreciated.

Now that y'all have to step down, it's time for us to be independent! :D

Thanks for the memories y'all gave us, from the first moment we stepped into the band room, up to now.

Y'all taught us how to fix clarinet, basic skills, pieces and everything.

We went thru' SIBF'o8, HK trip, SYF'o9, external performances (fernvale block party, national day 2008 @ anchorvale), CCA fiesta, CNY, Teachers' day AND ALOT MORE.

Laughter, tears, sweat. I know there may be some dissatisfaction here and there, but we overcame and remain as ONE section. :D

I really dont know how to express my thoughts cos y'all are my bestestestestestestestestest seniors I ever have :D

Awesome Speech Day!

Congrats on our great performance during speech day just now :D
It's super duper awesomistic fabulousiously superb.

Our litres of sweat have been paid off YAAAY.
Though the accumulated time of the 4 songs we played was less than 5mins, but I'm sure the teachers/ GOH/ VIPs, NOT FORGETTING MR TANG AND OUR ALUMNI MEMBERS are proud of us!

Okay, next's up --> 2010 Graduation Concert.
We gotta make things well so that our sec 4 members can have a memorable graduation night.
We MUST rock the night and hall kkkkkkkk! :D
It's the perfect time to show our gratitude towards our sec 4 seniors who have been SUPER patient in teaching us any skills/pieces and for their efftorts towards the band in getting the band better.

Thenthen, after that. SIBF!!!
We must get the 3 pieces perfect by June okayyyyyyyyyy.
(March April May, The wearing of the green and Rakes of Mallow)

please bring your instruments back home and practice hard! (unless you have valid reasons)
Do take down the notes Mr Tang asked to flatten/sharpen and practice with your tuner so that you can check your intonation!
We don't wanna get marked down by intonation or anything.
Ohyes, please keep in time and REMEMBER THE PULSE.
Cos we've been marked down cos of the pulse for both '07 and '09 syf.
I'm sure none of us wants this to happen again righttt.

Anyway, think we need more section bonding and stuff, so maybe we can have section lunch (suggested by KengYing) or something. It's a must include the sec 1s as well.

We'll have a change in who's playing which part.
Please note that this is fixed for SIBF and most probably all the way until 2011.

1st Clar: Isabel, Zoxanne.
Eb: ZhengYi.
2nd Clar: F.WanLing, Gina, KengYing.
3rd Clar: Huda, MingHui, K.WanLing, Jessline.
Bass Clar: WeiTong.

& in the future, if there's no Eb flat part, F.WanLing will play 1st Clar and ZhengYi will play 2nd.

Hey dudes! I mean gals haha.
Happy Chinese new year & valentine's day!
Such a shame this' de first time de sl's posting lol.
& me & kengying spent 1hour of our life recalling what was our password lol.
But nevertheless, 2009 was filled with joy with u all.
Though there were ups & downs, I do hope dat u all understand its for our section's own good.

Firstly, I'd like to give credits to L.KengYing & F.WanLing for creating this blog. So guys, please help to keep this blog alive. If you all want to post anything, can just get the user name and password from KengYing.

And, there'll be a clarinet outing on the 18th December. We'll be going to Marina Barrage. Be prepared to get wet and sunburn. So, please bring extra set of clothing there too. For the pot luck thing, there'll be another post up soon to let you know what food you should bring.
